It influences public policy through education and advocacy. It is where smart, active leaders volunteer to make democracy work and create positive changes in the community.

  • Latest League Positions ... Here are some of the League's positions on upcoming election and local issues.

  • Palomar Hospital ... The major public controversy involves the secrecy in which this public agency is developing the plan to use the $496 million bond monies for hospital expansion.

  • Rancho Guejito ... The controversy regarding the future of the Rancho Guejito parcel is an illustration of the conflicting political, economic and social considerations affecting our region's land use at this time.

  • Land Use ... Development is Taxing Region's Water and Sewer Capacity. This is a key issue which is at the basis of many local controversies involving the environment and land use.

  • Illegal Immigration Control ... The Escondido City Council is considering measures to control illegal immigration. A measure requiring Escondido landlords to verify the immigrant status of tenants was passed by a divided council in 2006 and made national headlines. The measure was later invalidated by court action. The Council has followed this action by considering other measures which are aimed at immigrants: day laborer restrictions and overnight parking.
